	Charity law in Scotland Scotland has its own charity law (Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and associated regulations). The Scottish Charity Register lists all charities in Scotland, including English and other foreign charities operating in Scotland. The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) supervises all charities on that register. more New charity law for Northern Ireland The Charities (NI) Order is expected to take effect during 2008. The first changes will establish the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and create the new register of charities in Northern Ireland (registrations are expected to begin in October 2008). A Charity Tribunal for Northern Ireland will be set up. This will be able to hear appeals from some of the new Commission's decisions. The new law will also:- Introduce a statutory definition of "charity" and a list of charitable purposes similar to but not the same as those found in the English Charities Act 2006. Establish a full regulatory regime for charities. Regulate public charitable collections. Introduce a detailed annual accounting and reporting regime. Set out new rules relating to trustees, in areas such as disqualification and remuneration. Provide a new optional corporate legal form - the charitable incorporated organisation. Timetable - Northern Ireland Implementation of the new law begins during 2008.
