Mobile working 'increasingly important to businesses'

The number of businesses embracing mobile devices for remote working purposes has continued to increase, based upon the findings of a recent study.

IT analyst Gartner reported that 81 million smartphones were sold around the world during the third quarter of the year, up from 41 million in the equivalent period during 2009.

Roberta Cozza, principal research analyst at Gartner, said that mobile device providers have entered "a period of accelerated platform evolution", with more regular product releases, new platform entrants and device types.

This is encouraging more businesses to shift their attention away from fixed, office-based hardware to mobile working devices, she stated.

With time very much at a premium for company bosses, and business increasingly conducted away from the office, mobile communications can help professionals to maximise the use of their working day.
