Bristol Business Startups
Voted the UK's best place to live in 2017 by The Sunday Times, Bristol has been an important commercial centre for over 1,000 years. Its industrial heritage can be seen throughout the city, Brunel’s Clifton suspension bridge and revolutionary SS Great Britain being two notable examples.
Bristol was an early pioneer in aerospace with the Brabazon, Britannia and Concorde all making their maiden flights from Filton. That area of North Bristol is still home to Airbus, BAE Systems, GKN, MBDA and Rolls Royce. Bristol’s other key industries include Advanced Engineering, High Tech, Low Carbon Technologies, Financial and Professional Business Services and Creative & Digital. The BBC Natural History unit and Aardman Animations both make award-winning productions in the city.
Bristol and Bath are home to the UK’s largest digital cluster outside London with the SETsquared Centre based in the Temple Meads Enterprise Zone proving a successful incubator for start-ups and new enterprises. This is one of the reasons why Bristol leads the South West region in the company formations stakes.
