Option to hold Company Registers at Companies House
Companies are currently required to hold their statutory registers either at their registered office, or other nominated location (SAIL address). With the exception of the Directors' residential address register, the information held on these registers is available for public inspection on request. From 30 June 2016 private companies can elect to have any one, or any combination, of the following statutory registers held at Companies House:
- Directors' residential addresses
- People with significant control (PSC)
Companies should be aware that the Companies House register service makes these records openly available to any member of the public at any time via the Companies House website. For example, where a company holds its own registers, information such as shareholders' addresses or directors' days of birth are not available from Companies House. This information becomes freely available if the company opts to hold the registers at Companies House. Where any of these registers are kept at Companies House additional filings will have to be made when changes occur in order to keep the register information correct and up to date.
If a company opts in to this service it can only start its registers at Companies House with current information. There is no facility to upload or record historic information and the company would still be required to keep its historic registers available for inspection at the registered office or SAIL address (as appropriate).
